17 in 2017 - January Progress

Meredith over at Pomegranate and Chintz has issued a challenge for 2017, the idea is to chose 17 UFO's and to work on each of them throughout 2017. You can read her original post here:

I have managed some progress on 3 projects from my list this month, the full list is here:

No. 2 - The Welsh Quilt

I have put in quite a few hours of hand quilting...

I think it is easier to see the quilting from the back

There is a still long way to go but I am happy to have completed another border :)

No. 9 Happy Days

most of my sewing time this month, was spent turning a pile of blocks into a quilt top ...

I am very happy to have this done and it is now off to my machine quilter to be basted so that I can hand quilt it.

No. 13 Goldfinch Silk Shading Embroidery

I am attempting to turn this picture of a Goldfinch

into an embroidery - so far I have part of a branch (!)

Thanks Meredith for the motivation :) I think focusing on only 2 -3 different projects worked well for me, we will see how well I do in February as I am about to start a new quilt tomorrow :)

  2. I love your Goldfinch! I have not even seen one finch this winter for some reason and I have a bag of seed outside hanging. Good luck on your continued progress on your UFO's

  3. Beautiful hand quilting, your top that you put together is lovely and as someone who can photograph finches but not SEW them, I am looking forward to watching this progress over the year ! :) I am lucky to do a decent backstitch, lol and that's about it :)

  4. The Welsh quilting is so lovely. I have made two small quilts with intense Welsh quilting. It sure takes persistence but it is so satisfying when it's done.

  9. You have been busy Elaine, I do like your Happy Days what a great quilt to have around you when you were sick you could make up so many stories about each block you would never be lonely. LOL. What patience to embroidered that wee finch looking forward to seeing it grow. Cheers Glenda PS I never get tired of seeing your beautiful home.

  10. Elaine, you're doing a great job with the Welsh quilt! It's going to be an heirloom. I'm trying to learn hand embroidery on Craftsy , it's a slow go. Is the Happy Days quilt from a pattern or are the blocks some orphan blocks you're putting together?

  17. It is funny how you said you were about to start a new quilt tomorrow. It cracks me up because I have one I am dying to start but I refuse to do so until I have a finish. My UFOs must decrease not increase.

I am in love with your quilt made from a "pile of quilt blocks". I call those orphan quilts because the blocks were orphaned and then put together. It is so gorgeous! You have accomplished so very much this month from piecing to embroidery to hand quilting. Wonderful progress!
